Chapter 26

5:16 p.m.

Saturday, April 16

J. C. Parker Office Building, Washington, DC

Art was right.

It was hard to believe what she was seeing.

After peeking through the window, Camille had immediately identified the strange set of goggles that the woman was wearing as a virtual reality headset. There were all sorts of video games that used similar types of goggles. Camille had also spotted a laptop on a small table on the far side of the room—something that Art had completely missed. None of that explained what the woman was actually doing, but it seemed unlikely that she had come all this way just to play some sort of video game.

Camille still was not convinced that the woman was planning an art theft; however, it was equally clear that she wasn’t just some random businessperson, lawyer, or tourist.

Something strange was definitely going on.

Camille checked the time on her phone. Art had promised that they would head home in nine minutes. They had to travel all the way across the city to get home by six o’clock and avoid getting into trouble. But the only way to find out what the woman was doing was to get her out of the room and get Art into it.
